This is the literary magic that Arundhati Roy has conjured following the wonder that was ‘God of Small Things’. This novel explores the human dimensions of key contemporary events, before they become a part of the historical canon. Roy is able to portray recent events in the light of truth, before they are embellished by history; a compelling account of our times. The lesser-known aspects of popular contemporary figures, hidden truths about important events, unrevealed greatness of those considered poor – ‘The Ministry of Utmost Happiness’ is the sum total of all these. The story of this novel is not to become everyone, but to slowly become everything.
