The Starless Sea follows graduate student Zachary Ezra Rawlins, who discovers a mysterious book, Sweet Sorrows, containing a story that mirrors a forgotten moment from his childhood, leading him to the hidden, subterranean Harbor beside the mystical Starless Sea. Drawn into a secret world of stories within stories, Zachary encounters Mirabel (the reincarnated embodiment of Fate), the Keeper (Time), Dorian, and others, while being pursued by Allegra and the Collector’s Club, who seek to control the Sea. Through layered texts like Fortunes and Fables and The Ballad of Simon and Eleanor, Zachary learns he must find Simon, a man lost in time, to fulfill a destined role in preserving the Harbor. After betrayals, sacrifices, and a journey through the honey-like Sea, Zachary is killed and resurrected with Fate’s heart, enabling renewal through destruction as the old Harbor floods and collapses. Ultimately, a new Harbor is reborn, continuing the cycle of stories, fate, and choice.
